According to GWI, the global water industry amounts to approximately KRW 996 trillion (USD 803.4 billion) as of 2020, and is expected to record an annual growth rate in the 3.4%-level up to 2024. The water industry can currently be classified into the asset investment market and the operating cost market. The asset investment market takes up 34.2%, and the operating cost market takes up 63.8%. However, in terms of growth rates, as of 2020, the annual average growth rate of the asset investment market is expected to be 4.9%, whereas that of the operating cost market is expected to be 2.6%. Thus, it is expected that the asset investment market will be greater than the operating cost market. In the future, investments in the global water industry is expected to be focused on expanding new markets for new services, rather than operating the current markets. By sectors, the sewage market is expected to be a promising sector. In addition, as developing countries are expected to expand their water industries, the equipment market, in particular pipes, pumps, belts, and other traditional water-related equipment market is expected to gain traction. Lastly, there must be preparations for the digital water industry, which is growing quickly since COVID-19.
