Reviving Water

Water reuse is an environmentally friendly water management method
that allows for the proper management and efficient use of limited water resources,
helping sustain urban development and ensuring the stable lives of citizens.
This method also introduces urban spaces where water that can be reused is stored.

1.Urban Water Storage Methods

- The Low Impact Development (LID) technique is a land-use planning and urban development approach designed to minimize the impact on natural water cycles and water environments caused by development. It reduces stormwater runoff through methods like infiltration and retention at the point of rainfall, aiming to manage water more sustainably.

① Vegetated Swale
: A facility composed of soil, sand, and gravel layers with plants, allowing rainwater to easily infiltrate the soil, thereby reducing stormwater pollutants.
② Tree Filter Box
: A concrete box embedded beneath street trees, which contains a filtration layer. It allows stormwater runoff from the road to infiltrate and reduces rainwater pollutants.
③ Infiltration Trench
: A small-scale stormwater retention facility filled with stones. During rainfall, it captures rainwater and allows it to infiltrate the soil, reducing stormwater pollutants.
④ Planting Planters
: Facilities that use urban green spaces or the area beneath planted trees to capture and store rainwater during storms. The water then infiltrates the soil, reducing stormwater pollutants.
⑤ Permeable Pavement
: A facility that uses permeable blocks or porous paving, along with underlying gravel, to allow rainwater to infiltrate the soil and reduce pollutants.
⑥ Infiltration-type Stormwater Drain
: A facility that directs rainwater entering storm drains to infiltrate the soil, reducing the amount of stormwater flowing into the drainage system and helping to minimize pollutants from road surfaces.

2. Explore Reused Water Storage Spaces

- An interactive experience where participants use a flashlight model to locate reused water storage spaces within the urban environment.

1. Stored Reused Water Supply Experience

- Stand on a balancing board, hold the handle, and move the board to guide marbles (representing reused water) to their destination.

Water Friends

An interactive space where you can release fish into clean,
purified water and protect them by removing pollutants from the water to ensure a safe environment for your aquatic friends.

1. The Dangers of Water Pollution

- Heavy metals such as mercury, lead, and cadmium can accumulate in the food chain, eventually reaching fish and other seafood. When consumed, these contaminants accumulate in the human body as well, potentially causing severe diseases such as nerve paralysis, speech disorders, and limb paralysis.
- A notable case of water pollution-related disease is the Minamata disease that occurred in Japan in 1956. The disease was caused by methyl mercury, which was released from a nitrogen fertilizer factory into wastewater. This mercury accumulated in plankton and shellfish, which were then consumed by people, leading to symptoms such as nerve paralysis, difficulty walking, speech disorders, and central nervous system paralysis.
- Other pollutants that enter water sources can lead to oxygen depletion in the water, which can cause red tide phenomena.
- Red tide is a harmful algae bloom that depletes oxygen levels and releases toxins, causing the death of fish, shellfish, and other marine life. If humans consume these contaminated creatures, it can result in food poisoning, and in severe cases, even death.
- To prevent water pollution, households should reduce food waste and the use of detergents and chemicals that contribute to the contamination of water sources.

2.Underwater Friends Experience

- An interactive experience where visitors can interact with fish generated through live sketching on a wall screen. By touching the screen, they can remove created pollutants and learn how to protect aquatic life.

A space where visitors make a personal commitment to conservation practices for water resources in their daily lives.

1. Water Guardian Pledge Experience

- Using a touch monitor, visitors send their Water Guardian pledge to the cloud. Through a screen, they can experience how their pledge transforms into a part of the water cycle, in a media-driven interactive experience.
